What should I feed a duck?

While it may be tempting, we do not recommend feeding waterfowl, except where authorized under a federal permit.

Feeding waterfowl increases the chances of negative human/wildlife encounters and could make them dependent on people for food.  Also, the food that people typically feed waterfowl is not as nutritious as what they would find for themselves.
